Dealing with OCD in the Office

A colleague who simply torments his coworkers with extreme attention to detail is a common sight in most workplaces. Well, no one who has a professional bent of mind wants to get away by doing a shoddy job. But there are some colleagues whose fetish with perfection goes to a point where they are a pain in the neck to people around them. This condition is called, well, you have guessed it: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or the notoriously popular short form of it- OCD. Attention to detail is fine. It is one of the highly regarded qualities an organization looks for in an employee, especially one who works in areas that require this. Yet, there is a difference between being attentive to detail and being obsessive and compulsive with it. A colleague with OCD typically gets down to such minute and acute detail that she wastes a lot of time on this obsession, sadly, at the cost of efficiency.
